About Our Family

We met eight years ago in Washington DC and we have been so happy together since! People say that fate brought us together because after our first meeting, we almost never met again - we will tell you about it some day.  The first time we met we talked about how much we both wanted to be Dads some day. 

Our backgrounds are very similiar and we share the same values.  We come from large families (we both have 4 brothers and sisters) who are very close.  Kevin is from Michigan and John was raised in California.  Everyone is so supportive of our relationship and our family created through open adoption. 

John is a human resources manager at Ford Motor Company and Kevin is a stay-at-home Dad. John's company offers excellent health care benefits and very family friendly policies.

Our Relationship

Our relationship is based on open and honest communication, caring, humor and lots and lots of laughs. We had a commitment ceremony to honor our life-time commitment to each other. All of our family and friends came. It was the most amazing and supportive day for both of us. And, in 2004 we were legally married in Toronto, Canada.

Adopting and bringing a child into our lives has brought a very special bond to our relationship. Open adoption is not new to our family. John's brother and sister-in-law just adopted a baby girl through open adoption too. So there are 2 children came into our families through open adoption. Our parents just can't get enought of their grandchildren - we think they would move in if we would let them!

We're both focused on our family and spending lots of time with our children. John gets up early so he can spend his morning with Ayden before work. Then, Kevin stays home with Ayden to make sure that she gets all the love and attention that a child needs. We're so excited about sharing our love with our children.

Our Thoughts On Each Other

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT KEVIN

Kevin is my closest friend and trusted partner. Everyone loves his warm Midwestern personality and fun sense of humor. He loves singing and music like Cold Play, Moby and Robbie Williams. Kevin connects easily with kids by asking a question or making a funny joke - a real silly Uncle. He always has toys stashed in the "secret hiding place" for our nieces and nephews who visit. I can just see Kevin and the baby in the garden together learning all about plants and butterflies.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT JOHN

When I met John I was struck by his kind and gentle manner. Friends and family feel very comfortable confiding in John because he takes the time to listen and has such a sympathetic ear. We both share the commitment to having a family.  John has a tremendous capacity to love and will shower the new baby with lots of attention and affection. John will make an incredible Dad and the kid who grows p with him as a father will be a lucky child.

OUR 7 YEAR OLD NEHPEW TALKS ABOUT US

When our nephew Shannon heard we wanted to adopt he wanted to say something on our web site. He and his family just adopted a baby girl through open adoption. Here is what he wanted to say: "Hi, my name is Shannon. In our family there are lots of Uncles. Out of all the Uncles I have, Uncle John and Uncle Kevin are my favorites. They make me laugh all the time when they play with me and act silly with me. They take me to fun places and teach me stuff, too. Most of all I like it when they give me toys when we visit. Uncle John and Uncle Kevin will be the best Dads in the whole world (but they will still be my Uncles, too)."
